Jailer 2 Trailer: Rajinikanth is back as the retired jailer "Tiger" Muthuvel Pandian. Sun Pictures released the official trailer of Jailer 2 on Monday, 5 October 2026, and the two-minute preview shows a tougher, more stylish Rajinikanth facing a larger set of enemies. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film will release in theatres worldwide on 15 October 2026.

The Jailer 2 movie also brings a crowded cast. Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff return from the first film, while Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Mithun Chakraborty appear as new names.

Jailer 2 Trailer: the Tiger is back

The trailer opens with Suraj Venjaramoodu's character, Dileep, questioning one of his men about where Muthuvel Pandian is. The answer is that the former jailer has disappeared from view. He is shown living a quiet life in a remote village and working as a driver, often ignored by people who do not know his past.

That calm does not last. Those linked to his earlier fight keep coming for him, and the trailer suggests Muthuvel is slowly pulled back into the world he had tried to leave behind.

A bigger enemy this time

In the first Jailer, Muthuvel Pandian brought down an idol smuggling network. The trailer of the sequel suggests that network was only one part of a larger set-up. Reports on the trailer say Muthuvel has been quietly investigating a wider syndicate called Kalpaks, which controls operations from the shadows.

The ending of the first film had already hinted at this. Varman, just before his death, warned Muthuvel that he would face the anger of "the ones on top", as The Hindu noted in its coverage of the trailer.

Rajinikanth's style, Nelson's humour

Rajinikanth's screen presence is again the main pull of the trailer. His character looks calm in one shot and dangerous in the next. Nelson Dilipkumar keeps the dry, deadpan humour of the first film alongside the action, including a scene where Muthuvel stays unbothered despite a sniper threat.

The trailer ends with Yogi Babu's character pointing out that Tiger is taking down people while cleaning a car as if nothing happened.

Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar return

Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar, whose cameos were among the talking points of Jailer, are back in the sequel. The trailer gives a short glimpse of both. Mohanlal appears again as Mathew and Shiva Rajkumar as Narasimha. Jackie Shroff also returns as Kamdev.

The return of these characters points to a larger film universe than the one seen in the first part.

Vidya Balan makes her Tamil debut

Vidya Balan is part of Jailer 2 and this marks her Tamil cinema debut. The trailer gives her a striking look and a tense dining-table exchange with Rajinikanth, but the makers have kept her role under wraps. It is not yet clear how her character connects to Muthuvel Pandian or to the main conflict.

SJ Suryah and the new threats

SJ Suryah appears in a pivotal role, and the trailer presents his character in an unusual, mysterious way. Reports name his character Bodhi Kalpak, but the makers have shared little, and the trailer only hints that he could be a serious challenge for Muthuvel.

Suraj Venjaramoodu plays Dileep, and Mithun Chakraborty's casting was confirmed through the trailer. Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and several other actors are also part of the cast. Vijay Sethupathi, who was earlier linked to the film, does not appear in the trailer, according to NDTV.

Anirudh's music and the crew

Anirudh Ravichander returns as the composer. His high-energy background score lifts Rajinikanth's entry and the action scenes in the trailer. The cinematography is by Vijay Kartik Kannan and the editing by R Nirmal.

Jailer 2 release date and producers

Jailer 2 is written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner. The Jailer 2 release date is 15 October 2026, ten days after the trailer. The first Jailer came out on 10 August 2023 and went on to become the highest-grossing Tamil film of that year.

What makes Jailer 2 different

From the trailer, Jailer 2 does not look like a repeat of the first film. Muthuvel Pandian is placed on a new mission, with a bigger criminal network, new faces and a larger star cast. The Tiger is back, and this time the target is bigger.
