Congress national secretary and Uttar Pradesh co-incharge Jagdish Chandra Jangid reached the Congress headquarters at Tilak Hall in Kanpur today and launched a sharp attack on the BJP. He accused the BJP and the police of serious wrongdoing over cases registered against Congress workers in the Maharajpur assembly constituency.
Jangid alleged that the police were being misused in the Maharajpur assembly area to continuously register “false and baseless” cases against Congress workers. He questioned the functioning of the police system in Uttar Pradesh and said changes were needed across the state’s entire police administration.
The Congress leader also demanded the resignation of Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana. He accused Mahana of bringing “disgrace” to the dignity of his office. Jangid had earlier raised the same demand while speaking about the cases filed against Congress workers in Maharajpur.
While questioning the role of the Uttar Pradesh Police, Jangid referred to the Supreme Court’s comments related to the police. Citing those observations, he said the state’s police system needed to be changed. He used the issue to target the BJP and the Uttar Pradesh government.
Jangid also criticised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He said that if the government believed an election could be won with the help of the police, that was wrong thinking. His remarks came while discussing the political situation in Uttar Pradesh and the Congress’s preparations for the 2027 assembly elections.
On the 2027 assembly elections, Jangid claimed that the Congress would win more than 402 seats. However, this is his political claim. The statement was made during his visit to Kanpur, where he addressed the issues concerning Congress workers in the Maharajpur assembly constituency and raised questions about the BJP, Satish Mahana and the police.
When asked about a possible alliance, Jangid said that the top leadership would take the decision. His response left the question of the Congress’s alliance strategy for the 2027 assembly elections with the party’s senior leadership.
