Husband, father-in-law, and mother-in-law arrested in dowry death case

Three suspects, including a husband, father-in-law, and mother-in-law, have been arrested by Shravasti police in connection with a dowry death case. The arrests were made on August 21, 2026, from Mohalla Court Riyasat in Bhinga town following a complaint filed by the victim's family at Kotwali Bhinga police station.

The case was registered under sections 85 and 80(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with sections 3/4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act based on a complaint lodged by the victim's relatives from Biskohar Tiraha Road, Rangarej Mohalla in Trilokepur police station area of Siddharthnagar district. The three accused have been identified as Jishan son of Pappu, Pappu son of Rahmatulla, and Pappu's wife, all residents of Mohalla Court Riyasat in Bhinga town.

The arrests were carried out under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Chandrakesh Singh and Circle Officer Bhinga Bharat Paswan. The police team was led by Inspector-in-charge Raj Prakash Singh and included Sub-Inspector Shamshad Ali, Head Constable Junaid Akhtar, Constable Vinod Kumar, and Woman Constable Niti Kumari. The operation was part of the ongoing crackdown on crime and criminals in the district as directed by Superintendent of Police Shravasti Rahul Bhati.

All three accused have been sent to judicial custody and forwarded to the relevant court for further legal proceedings. The police investigation into the case is currently underway, with authorities working to gather additional evidence and establish the sequence of events that led to the alleged dowry death. The case highlights the continued prevalence of dowry-related crimes in the region despite existing legal safeguards.
