Two men on scooter open fire at police during checking in Ghaziabad Modinagar, one shot

Two suspects on a scooter opened fire at police during a late-night checking drive on Niwari Road in Modinagar, Ghaziabad. One of the accused was shot in the leg during retaliatory action by police and both were arrested on the spot.

What happened on Niwari Road?

According to ACP Modinagar Bhaskar Verma, police had set up a checking point on Niwari Road late at night when two young men were spotted on a scooter. When officers signalled them to stop, the duo attempted to turn and flee. Their scooter skidded and fell during the escape attempt.

As the two ran towards nearby fields, one of them fired at the police team. In self-defence, officers returned fire and shot one accused in the left leg. Both suspects were immediately apprehended.

What was recovered from the accused?

Police recovered a country-made pistol, live cartridges, a snatched gold chain, and cash from the arrested suspects. The accused have confessed to being involved in multiple chain-snatching incidents in the Modinagar area.

ACP Bhaskar Verma confirmed that an FIR has been registered and further investigation is underway. The injured accused is receiving treatment at a local hospital.
