Shravasti SP lines up 3 policemen after Dalit elder's death in custody

In the Siswara Dalit elderly man Kamlesh death case in Shravasti, action has been taken against police and revenue staff, while an FIR has also been registered against 7 people.

SP Rahul Bhati has sent three policemen to the police lines. They include Giloula police station in-charge Ashish Kumar, sub-inspector Indradev Patel and constable Parvinder Kumar. The action came after the death of Dalit elderly man Kamlesh, who was allegedly being taken into police custody in connection with a land dispute.

Inspector Rajesh Kumar Gupta has been moved from the police lines and made the new in-charge inspector of Giloula police station.

On the instructions of DM Annapurna Garg, one kanungo and one lekhpal had already been suspended in the matter. Police have also registered a case against 7 people under relevant sections on the complaint given by the deceased’s brother, Keshram.

The investigation of the entire case has been handed over to the ADM. According to ASP Chandrakesh Singh, the law-and-order situation at the spot is completely normal.

As per the details of the case, on Tuesday late evening, a dispute broke out between two sides in Siswara village under Giloula over land measurement. After this, a police team and a revenue team reached the spot.

The family members allege that police were forcibly detaining Kamlesh and taking him to the police station. They claim that during this, due to police harassment and misbehaviour, his health deteriorated and he died.

The victim’s family has also alleged that police and revenue officials took one-sided action at the behest of influential people from the opposite side, leading to the tragic incident.
