Stray cattle have become a growing problem for people in Morena, with incidents involving bulls and other cattle reportedly causing accidents on the city’s roads. Residents are not only facing inconvenience because of the animals, but are also getting injured in road accidents. While some motorists on bikes and in cars collide with cattle, bulls fighting among themselves have also been hitting people walking or travelling on the roads.
The latest incident took place on Sunday late evening on Morena’s MS Road. Two bulls suddenly began fighting on the road. As the fight intensified, the animals started running around and came into the path of people passing through the area.
During the incident, one of the bulls first collided with a person riding a scooter. It then went on to hit a rickshaw. Two passersby were injured in the incident. The fight between the bulls created panic and confusion on MS Road for some time, as people tried to move away from the animals and avoid being hit.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the presence of stray cattle on the city’s roads and major routes. Residents say that cattle can suddenly come onto the road or start fighting, creating a danger for people travelling in vehicles as well as those walking.
A government cowshed is being operated at Deori by the Municipal Corporation to keep stray cattle in a safe place. Despite this facility, cattle continue to be seen roaming openly on roads and important routes in the city.
People say that if the Municipal Corporation regularly catches stray cattle and shifts them to the cowshed, accidents of this kind could be reduced to a considerable extent. They have also raised questions over the absence of a regular rescue campaign to remove cattle from the roads.
The presence of stray cattle on major roads has become a serious risk for vehicle drivers and pedestrians. The animals can suddenly come in front of vehicles, while fights between bulls can also leave people injured, as happened on MS Road.
Residents have questioned the working of the Municipal Corporation, saying that regular action has not been taken despite the continuing danger. The issue has also drawn attention to the responsibility of the civic authorities, particularly because the city already has a government cowshed for stray cattle.
The Municipal Corporation’s side could not be obtained in the matter. A phone call was made to Municipal Corporation Commissioner Satendra Singh Dhakare to seek his response, but he did not receive the call. Therefore, the Municipal Corporation’s response was not available.
