Farmers and workers protest in Greater Noida demanding urgent action

A massive protest under the nationwide ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ was held today at the District Magistrate’s office in Surajpur, Greater Noida. The event was organized by the United Trade Union Front and the All India Kisan Sabha, bringing together farmers and workers demanding urgent action on long-pending issues. Despite offering to be arrested as part of the movement, the police refused to detain the demonstrators. Instead, a nine-point memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister was submitted through the District Magistrate.

The protest follows the resolutions passed during the National Farmer-Worker Conference held on July 29, 2026, at Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium. Speaking at the event, CITU District Secretary Gangeshwar Dutt Sharma criticized the central and state governments for policies that he claimed were anti-worker and anti-farmer. He warned that if the demands were not addressed promptly, the movement would escalate further.

Key demands include repealing the four labor codes, implementing Swaminathan Commission recommendations for MSP guarantees, regularizing scheme workers with a minimum wage of ₹42,000, halting privatization, reinstating the old pension scheme, waiving farmer loans, controlling inflation, universalizing the PDS system, and withdrawing repressive laws. Special emphasis was placed on resolving long-pending issues of farmers affected by land acquisition in Gautam Buddh Nagar.

The memorandum highlighted unresolved cases, including the approval of 10% population plots proposed in 2023, clearing a backlog of 6,000 plots, and addressing 854 cases pending with the Greater Noida Authority. Farmers demanded immediate revision of circle rates under the new land acquisition law and allocation of 20% developed land.

Farmer leaders accused the authorities of repeated assurances without action, leading to growing frustration among the farming community. Dr. Rupesh Verma, District President of the All India Kisan Sabha, warned that if these issues remain unresolved, larger and more decisive protests will follow.

The protest saw participation from prominent leaders like Ram Swarth, Mukesh Kumar Raghav, and others, along with a significant number of farmers, workers, and women.
