Emery Faces Arsenal Test as Villa Squad Exodus Leaves Champions in Crisis

Aston Villa will host Arsenal at Villa Park on Monday night with only five starters remaining from the team that lifted the Europa League trophy just months ago, following a summer transfer window that has dismantled last season's Champions League qualifiers.

The 8pm Premier League clash arrives at a pivotal moment for Unai Emery's side, who suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Brighton in their season opener, conceding all four goals before half-time. The loss has left Villa searching for their first points of the campaign, with Arsenal arriving on the back of a 100 per cent start.

Summer Exodus Reshapes Villa

The scale of Villa's squad overhaul has been staggering. Morgan Rogers departed for Chelsea in a £117 million deal, while Youri Tielemans joined Manchester United and Lucas Digne moved to Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta offered support for his counterpart, describing Emery as "one of the most experienced managers in the league, and one of the most successful without a shadow of a doubt". Tactical Battle and Injury Concerns

Arsenal's tactical analyst Adrian Clarke identified Villa's vulnerability to pressing as a key weakness exposed against Brighton, where they conceded a league-high 19 high turnovers. The Gunners successfully employed aggressive man-to-man pressing in the second half of their 4-1 home victory over Villa last season.

Bruno Guimaraes could make his Premier League debut for Arsenal after recovering from a groin issue sustained in the Community Shield, though Jurrien Timber remains doubtful and William Saliba carries a long-term back concern.

Villa's injury crisis deepens their problems. Gomes is suspended following a red card on debut, Amadou Onana will miss the entire campaign with an ACL injury, Tammy Abraham has a groin issue, and Brian Madjo missed the opening weekend.
