Nearly 10 years have passed since the area was upgraded from a municipal council to a municipal corporation and 12 nearby gram panchayats were brought within the corporation limits. However, residents say that basic facilities in these areas are still missing. In Ward Number 44, Dompura, the situation has become so poor that people do not even have a proper cremation ground for the last rites of their family members.

When 77-year-old Gokul Karn died on 6 October, his family and villagers had to perform his last rites in an open space. The incident has raised questions over the system in which villages were included in the municipal corporation with claims that development and better facilities would follow.

The absence of a proper cremation ground has remained a serious problem for the people of Dompura. Residents say that families are forced to think about where they will perform the last rites whenever someone dies. For the hundreds of families living in Ward 44, the issue is not only about a civic facility. It is also about being able to perform the last rites of their loved ones with dignity.

Villagers say that the land-related problem for building a cremation ground has already been resolved. The Collector’s Court allotted 0.910 hectares of land from Survey Number 69 in village Dompura to the Municipal Corporation Morena for construction of a cremation ground.

The allotment was made on 10 December 2025 under Order Number 0084/अ-20(3)/2024-2025. Residents say that around 10 months have passed since the land was allotted, but construction work has still not started. They say that not even a single brick has been laid at the site.

This has led to questions about the delay. If land is available for the cremation ground, residents want to know where the obstacle to starting construction lies. Despite the land allotment, the project has not moved beyond the stage of assurances, according to the villagers.

Residents say they have repeatedly raised the matter in writing and verbally with the Collector, Tehsildar, Patwari, Member of Parliament, Mayor and Municipal Corporation Commissioner. They also submitted a complaint during the public hearing on 25 August 2026. The complaint was registered under computer code 750915.

However, villagers say the situation remains unchanged even after the complaint at the public hearing. According to them, they are given assurances of action every time they approach the authorities, but construction of the cremation ground has still not begun.

Residents also recall that when Dompura was part of the gram panchayat, there was an arrangement for a cremation ground. They say that even after nearly a decade since the area was included in the municipal corporation, this basic facility has not been made available.

The matter has also brought attention to the gap between the administrative status of the area and the facilities available to its residents. Although Dompura is now part of the municipal corporation, villagers say they continue to face problems associated with the absence of basic village-level amenities.

Mayor Sharda Solanki said that she was not aware of the problem. She said that several gram panchayats had been included in the municipal corporation and that the arrangements in those areas would also be reviewed.

The Mayor said that a team would be sent to inspect the situation at the spot in connection with the problem in Ward 44. She also said that action would be taken to get a cremation ground constructed.

Residents are now waiting to see whether the Mayor’s instructions will result in an actual cremation ground for the people of Dompura. They also want to know whether the latest assurance will lead to construction or, like the earlier complaints, remain stuck in files.
