Mumbai is set to host the Indian premiere of Christopher Nolan's highly-anticipated film *The Odyssey* on July 10 and 11, marking the filmmaker's first-ever premiere event in India. Nolan, accompanied by producer Emma Thomas and stars Matt Damon and Tom Holland, will attend the premiere and participate in promotional activities during his visit.
The screenings will take place at PVR ICON: Phoenix Palladium in Mumbai, which has been designated as an official stop on the film’s global premiere tour alongside cities such as London, Paris, and New York. Written and directed by Nolan, *The Odyssey* is set for a worldwide theatrical release on July 17.
The film, a cinematic adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic, follows Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, on his perilous decade-long journey home after the Trojan War. Anne Hathaway portrays Penelope, Odysseus’s wife, while the ensemble cast includes Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.
*The Odyssey* holds the distinction of being the first feature film shot entirely with IMAX cameras, underscoring Nolan’s commitment to delivering immersive cinematic experiences. Produced by Nolan and Emma Thomas under their company Syncopy, the film has already generated significant excitement among Indian audiences.
Advance ticket sales for the IMAX format opened on June 8, and nearly 45% of the available tickets have been sold, reflecting strong demand for the film. Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director of PVR INOX Limited, highlighted Nolan’s ability to create theatrical events that resonate deeply with Indian audiences, citing the filmmaker’s distinctive storytelling and dedication to the big-screen experience.
Nolan’s visit to India underscores the growing importance of the Indian market for global releases. His films have consistently performed well in the country, with *Oppenheimer* emerging as the second-largest international market during its opening weekend nearly three years ago.
