Chief Election Commissioner urges active voter participation in democracy

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar visited Agra on Thursday to attend the 78th Foundation Day celebrations of the National Chamber of Industries and Commerce, Uttar Pradesh. Addressing the gathering, Kumar highlighted India's status as the world's largest democracy and emphasized the pivotal role of the Election Commission as the largest election management body globally.

Speaking on the responsibilities of the Election Commission, Kumar noted that it ensures free and fair elections for over 950 million registered voters in the country. He praised the contributions of Agra's industrialists and social organizations, acknowledging their efforts in strengthening democratic values. "An aware voter is the greatest strength of democracy," Kumar remarked, urging citizens to actively participate in the electoral process.

Kumar also discussed the importance of the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, which aims to make voter lists more accurate and up-to-date. He appealed to citizens to exercise their right to vote and rely on factual information to make informed decisions. Stressing the integrity of India's election process, Kumar assured that all procedures are conducted strictly in accordance with the Constitution and the Election Commission's guidelines.

The Chief Election Commissioner concluded by calling on every eligible citizen to cast their vote, emphasizing that active participation is essential for strengthening democracy. His visit to Agra underscored the Election Commission's commitment to fostering transparency, awareness, and inclusivity in India's electoral system.
