Case filed against social media account for abusive posts targeting UP Assembly Speaker Mahana

A case has been registered at Naubastan police station in Kanpur after offensive and indecent comments were posted on social media against Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana.

According to police, objectionable content targeting Satish Mahana was posted from a social media account under the name "Anoop Gupta". The post used serious and abusive words such as goon, corrupt, land mafia and murderer to describe the Assembly Speaker.

The matter has sparked widespread anger among BJP workers. BJP office bearers Lalji Tiwari and Ramu Bajpai approached Naubastan police station and submitted a written complaint demanding action in the case. Based on their complaint, police have registered a case against the account holder Anoop Gupta under sections of the IT Act and defamation.

The station in-charge stated that the post is being investigated and technical examination is underway to identify who is behind the account. Further action will be taken soon once the probe is completed.

The case follows the formal complaint by the two BJP functionaries who expressed strong objections to the language used against the senior constitutional functionary. Police are treating the matter seriously given the nature of allegations made in the social media post and the position held by Satish Mahana as Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
