A suspected sand mafia chase triggered panic in Morena after around 20 tractor-trolleys loaded with sand allegedly entered the city and fled through narrow lanes when police began pursuing them around 5:30 am. The vehicles, which were moving at high speed and in an uncontrolled manner, entered Rathore Colony on Tunch Road, hit a car, and left the vehicle damaged after it went into a roadside drain.
The incident has again raised questions over sand excavation and transport from the Chambal area, where sand mining has been described as shut for a long time. Despite that, a large number of sand-loaded tractor-trolleys allegedly reached Morena city. When police chased them, the drivers tried to escape, creating chaos in the colony lanes.
According to the account from the spot, the tractor-trolleys entered the lanes of Rathore Colony on Tunch Road to avoid the police. During this, one of the tractor-trolleys hit a car. The collision was so forceful that the car went into the drain along the road and was damaged. The car occupant survived.
After the incident, fear has spread in the locality. Eyewitnesses said that if children or other people had been present in the colony lanes at that time, a major accident could have taken place. Two CCTV clips of the entire incident have also surfaced.
Local resident Naresh Rathore said he was returning from Dholpur in his car in the morning and was going towards his house. As soon as he entered his lane, he saw a large number of sand-loaded tractor-trolleys suddenly coming from the front at high speed.
According to Naresh, he tried to control his car, but a tractor-trolley hit it. After the collision, his vehicle went into the drain and was damaged.
Naresh also said that two police constables were coming behind on foot and were even throwing stones to stop the tractor drivers. A police vehicle was also behind them.
Describing the moment, Naresh Rathore said in Hindi, “मैं धौलपुर से लौटकर अपनी गाड़ी से घर की गली में आ रहा था। सामने से बड़ी संख्या में रेत की ट्रैक्टर-ट्रॉलियां तेज गति से आईं। उन्होंने मेरी गाड़ी को टक्कर मार दी और भाग गए। मेरी गाड़ी नाली में जा घुसी। मैं आज मरते-मरते बचा हूं। यह मेरा दूसरा जन्म है।”
He said that because it was early morning, there were not many people and children outside in the lane. If someone had come in front of the speeding vehicles, a serious accident could have happened.
Eyewitnesses said the route taken by the tractor-trolleys saw sudden panic. During the escape, a wooden counter kept outside a house was damaged. A water tap line was also damaged.
Residents were left shaken after the speeding tractors suddenly entered the narrow lanes. People in the locality said a major accident was avoided by a difference of just a few seconds.
Another local resident, Kamla Bai, said she heard sudden noise in the morning. When she came outside, she saw several sand-loaded tractor-trolleys speeding away.
According to her, the tractors hit Naresh’s car, but even after that the drivers did not stop. Police personnel and police vehicles were also behind them.
Kamla Bai said people in the colony are in fear after the incident.
It is being said that police had begun chasing the sand-loaded tractor-trolleys to stop them. On seeing the police, the drivers left the main road and entered the narrow lanes of the city.
With around 20 tractor-trolleys running at high speed together, the situation appeared to be going out of control. It was during this chase that the car was hit in Rathore Colony on Tunch Road.
The case has now raised several questions after CCTV footage of the incident came out. Questions are being asked about police action and sand transport, especially because the Chambal sand excavation has been described as closed for a long time.
The incident took place around 5:30 am at Tunch Road, Rathore Colony, Morena. The case involves police chasing tractor-trolleys loaded with sand. The number of tractor-trolleys has been put at around 20. The accident involved a car being hit and going into a drain. The damage includes the car, a wooden counter, and a tap line. Two CCTV clips have emerged as evidence. The situation in the area remains one of fear among residents.
When the correspondent tried to contact Kotwali police station in-charge Amit Bhadauria by phone regarding the incident, he did not receive the call.
In the matter, CSP Deepali Chandauria said she currently did not have information about the incident. She said, “अभी मुझे जानकारी नहीं है। मैं जानकारी लेकर बताती हूं।”
The central question now being raised is how sand is reaching the city despite sand excavation in the Chambal being described as shut. The incident has once again put the spotlight on alleged illegal excavation and transport of sand from the Chambal.
If around 20 sand-loaded tractor-trolleys reached the city together and continued fleeing after seeing police, questions are also being raised about their source, route and the monitoring of their transport.
The two CCTV clips that have surfaced are expected to be important in establishing the sequence of events. The footage, according to the details from the locality, captures the tractor-trolleys entering the colony lanes, the chaos that followed, and the impact on the car.
Residents say the timing of the incident prevented a bigger tragedy. Since it was early morning, the lanes were not crowded. The concern in Rathore Colony is that if children, pedestrians or other residents had been outside at that moment, the speeding tractor-trolleys could have caused serious injuries.
The account from Naresh Rathore places the police chase directly behind the fleeing vehicles. He said two constables were following on foot and trying to stop the drivers by throwing stones, while a police vehicle was also behind them. His car, according to his statement, was hit when the sand-loaded tractor-trolleys came from the front at high speed.
The damage was not limited to the car. Eyewitnesses also pointed to damage to household items kept outside and to a water line. The wooden counter kept outside a house was damaged, and the tap line was also broken as the tractor-trolleys moved through the lane.
For the people of the area, the incident has become a matter of immediate fear and wider concern. The immediate fear is about vehicles loaded with sand racing through residential lanes. The wider concern is about how such a large number of tractor-trolleys reached the city and whether sand transport from the Chambal is being effectively checked.
Police and administration will now be watched for what action they take on the basis of the CCTV footage. The key issues include identifying the tractor drivers, seizing the vehicles, and finding out the source of the sand.
