Residents of Gram Dichauli in the Jagdishpur development block of Amethi have approached the District Magistrate, opposing an alleged attempt to build a cremation ground on land they describe as part of the village habitation area.

The villagers submitted an application to the DM and requested that the matter be investigated. They have also sought appropriate action, saying the proposed construction should not be allowed at the disputed site without a proper inquiry.

According to the villagers, gata number 1574 in Gram Dichauli includes habitation land as well as a government tubewell. They said farmers use water from this tubewell to irrigate their fields. The villagers also stated that a link road connecting several villages passes through the same place.

In their complaint, the residents further said that a mahua tree, which they described as around hundreds of years old, is also present at the site. They have argued that the location is therefore not suitable for the proposed construction.

The application alleges that an effort is being made to construct a cremation ground in the same gata against the wishes of the villagers. The villagers said the land at the proposed site is not as per the required standards. They also claimed that because the land is uneven and irregular, levelling would be needed there.

The villagers have requested the DM to ensure that the cremation ground is built on other land located outside Gram Dichauli. In their application, they mentioned account numbers 1240, 1262, 1373, 1381, 1147/mi. and 1348 as the land parcels where, according to them, the cremation ground can be constructed.

They said construction at a proper place would allow all villagers to get the benefit of the government scheme. The residents have demanded an inquiry into the matter and asked that the construction be carried out only at an appropriate site.
