Activist group submits 97th memorandum demanding SC/ST Act misuse probe

The Jan Jagran Samiti Auraiya submitted its 97th memorandum addressed to the President of India at the district headquarters in Kakor, Auraiya, continuing its sustained campaign demanding action against the misuse of the SC/ST Act.

The memorandum was handed over to Additional District Magistrate Finance and Revenue Avinash Chandra Maurya at Kakor. The submission marks the 97th consecutive month that the Samiti has been presenting such memoranda to authorities.

The memorandum primarily demands that the misuse of the SC/ST Act be stopped, that an investigation be conducted into fake cases registered under the SC/ST Act, and that government funds obtained by filing fraudulent cases be recovered. The committee has been consistently raising these issues through constitutional means for over eight years now.

Mahesh Pandey, convenor of Jan Jagran Samiti, said that the committee has been submitting memoranda continuously for 97 months, but no action has been taken on these constitutionally submitted representations by those sitting in responsible positions. He said this lack of action demonstrates their insensitivity and is a blot on democracy.

Pandey announced that before the 100th memorandum is submitted on December 19, 2026, a daily satyagraha will be held at the district headquarters Kakor from December 12 to December 19. During this period, the future course of action will be decided based on the views of all aware citizens of the district. He made it clear that until amendments are made to stop the misuse of the SC/ST Act, memoranda addressed to the President will continue to be submitted every month.

In addition to the SC/ST Act issue, a 47th memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister was also submitted. This separate memorandum demands that the minimum age for boys and girls who wish to marry for love against the wishes of their parents be fixed at 25 years, and that parental consent be made mandatory for love marriages.

Awasthi, Milan Choubey, Santosh Singh Sengar, Rahul Kumar Dixit, Ganga Charan, Savita, Nathuram Tiwari, Sarvesh Kumar Dixit, Sudhir Tiwari, Badan Singh Baghel, Arun Kumar Tripathi and others.
