The Bilaspur unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad held a symbolic sit-in protest at Government College Bilaspur over various problems and issues concerning students. The protesters raised concerns about the monkey menace on the college campus, the shortage of teachers, poor cleanliness in classrooms and toilets, and students being made to clean bushes on the premises.
The demonstration was held on the college campus in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. Students associated with ABVP placed these issues before the college management and demanded that action be taken soon.
ABVP workers said the monkey menace on the college campus was continuously increasing. According to them, this had created an atmosphere of insecurity among male and female students. They raised the issue while seeking steps to address the problems faced by students inside the college premises.
The protesters also highlighted the shortage of teachers at the college. They said the lack of adequate professors was affecting the studies of students. With examinations approaching, students were being forced to study on their own because of the shortage of teachers, they said.
The protesting students expressed anger over the dirt spread in the college classrooms and toilets. They said a proper cleanliness system should be ensured across the campus. The students further said that if the cleanliness arrangements were not improved soon, ABVP workers would take up the responsibility of cleaning the campus themselves.
The students also objected to students being asked to clean bushes on the college premises. They said students come to the college to study and that it was not appropriate to make them do such work.
Dev Arya Tadu, district convenor of ABVP Bilaspur, said the organisation had staged the symbolic sit-in over problems linked to student interests. He appealed to the college management to fulfil the demands at the earliest.
Dev Arya Tadu also warned that if the problems were not resolved soon, ABVP would be forced to unite the students and launch an aggressive protest on the college campus. The organisation said the demonstration was aimed at drawing attention to the problems affecting students and pressing the college management for an early resolution.
