70-year-old man seeks compensation after fire destroys shop and home

A 70-year-old man from Dadri village in Hamirpur district has approached the district administration, seeking compensation for losses incurred in a fire that destroyed his shop and hut two months ago. Gajraj, the victim, claims that despite repeated requests, he has not received any financial aid or support from the authorities.

The incident took place two months ago in the Kurara area, where Gajraj’s small shop selling paan masala and his nearby hut were gutted in a fire. The blaze caused significant damage, destroying household items and resulting in financial losses amounting to thousands of rupees. Since then, Gajraj has been struggling to make ends meet, as his shop was his sole source of livelihood.

Frustrated by the lack of action, Gajraj visited the collectorate premises to plead for help. He stated that his requests for compensation have gone unanswered for two months, leaving him in a dire situation. “I have lost everything in the fire and have been waiting for help, but no one has come forward to assist me,” he said.

The elderly man’s plight highlights the challenges faced by those in rural areas when dealing with disasters. With no alternative means of income, Gajraj is now dependent on the district administration to provide relief and help him rebuild his life. He has urged officials to expedite the process and ensure he receives the compensation he is entitled to.
