20-Year-Old Woman Dies After Drowning in Shamli Pond

A 20-year-old woman, identified as Ritu, died after drowning in a pond in Hiranwada village of Shamli’s Thanabhawan block on Wednesday. After receiving information about the incident, Babri police reached the spot and began efforts to bring her out of the water.

Two police personnel entered the pond and pulled Ritu out. She was then taken immediately to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Thanabhawan for treatment. However, after examining her, doctors declared her dead.

Following the doctors’ declaration, Ritu’s family took her body back to their home. Her death has left the family in mourning.

According to the information available, Ritu was a resident of Hiranwada village. Her father, Brijpal, works as a labourer and supports the family. Ritu was the fifth among his six children.

The pond where the incident took place is located about 50 metres from Ritu’s home. She drowned in the pond on Wednesday. After villagers came to know about the incident, there was activity in the village and the police were informed.

Once the information reached them, Babri police officials arrived at the location. Two police personnel entered the water and rescued Ritu from the pond. She was subsequently taken to the Thanabhawan CHC, where doctors checked her and declared that she had died.

Babri police station in-charge Kuldeep Singh provided information about the incident.

According to the police, Ritu was mentally ill. The police also said that she had earlier made a similar attempt, but had been saved at that time. However, she could not be saved in the incident that took place on Wednesday.

The police have not received any complaint in the matter so far. According to the police, further action will be taken as per the rules if a complaint is received. The family remains in mourning after Ritu’s death.
