11-year-old girl missing after falling into drain in Bulandshahr

An 11-year-old girl, Charu Kashyap, has been missing for over 72 hours after falling into a drain in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. The tragic incident occurred on July 28 in the Satha locality of the Nagar Kotwali area. Despite extensive search efforts, there has been no trace of the child, leaving her family and neighbors devastated.

According to eyewitnesses, Charu, a Class 4 student, was walking near the drain when she slipped and fell into the fast-flowing water caused by heavy rains. Despite attempts by nearby residents to save her, the strong current swept her away toward the Kali River. Her disappearance has sparked outrage in the locality, with residents blaming the municipal authorities for the lack of safety measures, such as protective nets or walls around the drain.

Local police and divers initially searched the drain and surrounding areas but were unsuccessful. In response, authorities called in a six-member team of professional divers from Baghpat to intensify the search. The team has been combing a five-kilometer stretch of the Kali River since early morning, using nets and poles to search through dense vegetation, water hyacinths, and deep pits along the riverbanks.

Charu’s parents are inconsolable, and their home has been flooded with visitors offering support. Meanwhile, the community has expressed anger over what they see as negligence by the municipal corporation, demanding immediate action to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Police officials have assured that every effort is being made to locate the child. "The search operation will continue until the girl is found," said the Nagar Kotwali Station House Officer. As the professional divers work tirelessly, the entire locality is anxiously awaiting updates on the rescue operation.
