A case of alleged fraud has come to light at a petrol pump in Sikandrarau, where two people travelling in a black Maruti Baleno allegedly got petrol worth ₹4000 filled in their car and fled without making the payment. The incident took place at the Suraksha Automobile petrol pump on Etah Road on Wednesday evening.

According to the allegation, the two people tried to mislead the petrol pump employees by giving the impression that they would make an online payment. They allegedly kept one of the employees occupied in conversation and drove away as soon as they got an opportunity. The entire incident was captured by the CCTV cameras installed at the petrol pump.

Petrol pump employees said that the black Baleno arrived at the pump on Wednesday evening with two people inside. Both of them were wearing caps. They asked the employees to fill petrol worth ₹4000 in the car. During the process, one of the people continued talking to an employee, while the other remained seated inside the vehicle.

After the petrol had been filled, the car’s gate was left open. When the employees asked the occupants to pay for the petrol, the car occupants said that they would pay ₹1500 online and the remaining amount in cash.

The two people then allegedly claimed that they were facing difficulty with the online payment and that the payment could not be scanned. The employees said that they also asked for a mobile number and continued to keep the employee engaged in conversation.

Before the employee could understand what was happening, the driver started the car. The two people then allegedly fled without paying for the petrol, driving towards Etah Road.

One of the petrol pump employees narrowly escaped being hit when the car was suddenly driven away. After the incident, the employees chased the car for some distance and informed the police by dialling 112.

After receiving the information, police reached the spot and began looking for the car occupants. However, the people involved in the incident could not be apprehended.

According to the employees, the car did not have a number plate either at the front or at the rear. They said that the absence of number plates could make it difficult to identify the people involved.

The employees also claimed that a similar incident had taken place a few days earlier at the Diamond petrol pump located near Husainpur village on Aligarh Road. The claim was made by the petrol pump employees.

Police are currently investigating the matter on the basis of a complaint. Efforts are being made to identify the car occupants and trace them with the help of the CCTV footage. The footage is expected to provide clues about the vehicle and the people seen at the petrol pump.

Following the incident, concern has been reported among petrol pump operators and employees over the need for greater alertness while dealing with such payments.
