TVK, DMK Slam Governor for Paying Tribute to Thiruvalluvar in Saffron Attire

Tamil Nadu's political landscape witnessed fresh controversy as the Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) criticised the state Governor for paying tribute to an image of Thiruvalluvar, the revered Tamil poet-saint, depicted in saffron attire. The incident has drawn sharp reactions from the two parties, who have accused the Governor of politicising a cultural icon deeply respected across Tamil Nadu.

The image in question, featuring Thiruvalluvar in saffron robes, has been a contentious issue in the state, where the poet is traditionally portrayed in white attire, symbolising neutrality and inclusivity. TVK and DMK leaders have alleged that the Governor's actions reflect an attempt to impose ideological narratives on a figure who represents Tamil heritage and secular values. "Thiruvalluvar belongs to all Tamils, and any attempt to alter his image for political gains will not be tolerated," a senior DMK leader stated.

The criticism comes amidst ongoing tensions between the state government and the Governor's office over various administrative and cultural issues. The DMK, which leads the ruling coalition in Tamil Nadu, has often clashed with the Governor on matters of governance and policy.
