₹3,301 Crore Disbursed to 66,038 Farmer Families Under Rythu Bima Scheme: Tummala
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Government has extended insurance assistance amounting to ₹3,301.90 crore to the families of 66,038 deceased farmers under the Rythu Bima scheme over the past two-and-a-half years, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced on Thursday.
Providing further details, the Minister revealed that from December 2023 to date, insurance claims totaling ₹3,301.90 crore have been directly credited to the bank accounts of nominees of deceased farmers. Of this, ₹1,004.50 crore was disbursed to 20,090 families between December 2023 and the end of that year, while ₹1,293.05 crore was paid to 25,861 families during 2024.
For the financial year 2025-26, a total of 42.16 lakh farmers have been enrolled under the Rythu Bima scheme. The government has fully covered the annual premium of ₹1,359.56 crore, paid to the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India, ensuring insurance coverage for all registered farmers. During this period, ₹1,004.35 crore was disbursed as insurance assistance to 20,087 bereaved farmer families, providing critical financial support in challenging circumstances.
In response to allegations from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders that the Rythu Bima scheme had been discontinued, the Minister categorically dismissed these claims as false and misleading. He criticized the previous government for suspending several farmer-focused initiatives, such as agricultural mechanization, soil health testing, and subsidized seed distribution. Additionally, he alleged that the BRS government had failed to release the State's share for centrally sponsored schemes, depriving farmers of key benefits.
