Teachers' Federation Thanks CM Naidu for Restoring Old Pension Scheme
DSC-2003 Teachers’ Federation thanks CM Naidu for restoring the Old Pension Scheme, benefiting 11,000 employees and enhancing financial security.
A federation of DSC-2003 teachers, police personnel, and employees’ unions expressed gratitude to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for reinstating the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). The acknowledgment came during a meeting held near Mangalagiri on Sunday. The move replaces the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and extends OPS benefits to approximately 11,000 teachers, employees, and police personnel.
OPS Restoration Praised as a Milestone
Federation coordinator K. L. Srinath highlighted that the restoration aligns with Memo No. 57 issued by the Centre, emphasizing its significance for the welfare of government employees. Rajya Sabha member Bhashyam Ramakrishna lauded Naidu’s consistent efforts to address workers’ concerns, stating that the decision reflects the Chief Minister’s commitment to improving employee welfare.
The Old Pension Scheme, which guarantees defined benefits post-retirement, is seen as a vital social security measure. MLCs Alapati Rajendra Prasad, Vepada Chiranjeevi, and Kancharla Srikanth underscored its importance in ensuring financial stability for retired employees.
Leaders and Stakeholders Voice Support
The meeting also saw participation from former MLCs Paruchuri Ashok Babu and A. S. Ramakrishna, along with BJP leader Valluri Jayaprakash Narayan. They joined others in commending the state government’s decision, which has been a long-standing demand of employee unions.
The restoration of the OPS marks a significant policy shift, addressing concerns over the CPS, which many employees criticized for its market-linked uncertainties. This move is expected to bolster the morale of government employees and reinforce their financial security post-retirement.
