Supply Department raids sugar warehouses in Amethi to prevent hoarding and price manipulation

The Supply Department conducted surprise inspection raids on sugar warehouses in Amethi tehsil area to curb hoarding and check compliance with stock limits. The operation was part of the department's ongoing efforts to prevent artificial scarcity and black marketing of essential commodities in the region.

Supply Inspectors Shubham and Arun Kumar Pandey led the inspection team that visited multiple sugar godowns in the area. The officials specifically targeted Maheshwari Traders and Gopal Das Traders, two wholesale establishments dealing in sugar distribution. During the checks, the team found 166 bags of sugar stored at one warehouse, while the second godown contained 104 bags of sugar stock.

The inspectors conducted thorough verification of the inventory at both locations, cross-checking stock registers and purchase documents against the physical quantities found. After completing the assessment, the officers issued strict instructions to the traders not to store sugar beyond the prescribed limit set by the government. The limits are designed to ensure adequate market supply and prevent hoarding that could lead to artificial price increases.

The Supply Department's enforcement action has created a sense of vigilance among traders in the district. Such inspections are critical in maintaining price stability for essential commodities, especially sugar, which is a staple in Indian households. The department has indicated it will continue monitoring warehouses and retail outlets to ensure compliance with stock-holding norms.

Officials have warned that any violations of the prescribed limits or evidence of hoarding will attract strict penal action under the Essential Commodities Act.
