SP Holds First PDA Mahapanchayat in Rae Bareli After Poonam Singh Joined

A PDA Mahapanchayat was held in Rae Bareli under the aegis of the Samajwadi Party, with former cabinet minister and SP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui attending as the chief guest. The event has intensified political activity in the district.

This was the first PDA Mahapanchayat organised by the Samajwadi Party after Poonam Singh joined the party. Poonam Singh is the sister of late Akhilesh Singh, who had been elected several times as the MLA from the Rae Bareli Sadar seat.

The political significance of the event has increased because the daughter of late Akhilesh Singh is currently the BJP MLA from the Sadar seat. Poonam Singh’s association with the Samajwadi Party and the organisation of the Mahapanchayat have therefore drawn attention in the area.

Addressing the gathering, Naseemuddin Siddiqui launched a strong attack on the BJP governments at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh. He alleged that the BJP does politics over temples and mosques, as well as over Hindus and Muslims.

Siddiqui also alleged that government departments were being sold to industrialists. He said Dalits and Brahmins were being beaten, and claimed that bulldozers could be used against those who speak too much.

Speaking about the Constitution, the former cabinet minister said, “As long as the Constitution exists, we exist.”

On the possibility of an alliance involving the Samajwadi Party, the Congress and other parties, Siddiqui said the party’s top leadership would take a decision as elections draw closer.
