Skilled goldsmith dies of kidney failure after hospital turns away family in Auraiya

Devesh alias Chhotu Thakur, a resident of Lohiyanagar in Dibiyapur, Auraiya, died due to kidney failure. The 38-year-old goldsmith, known for his skilled craftsmanship, succumbed to the illness late last night after suffering unbearable pain at his home. His last rites were performed this afternoon.

Chhotu's family had initially taken him to Hallet Hospital in Kanpur for treatment when his condition deteriorated. However, doctors at the facility declared that they could do nothing more for him and advised the family to take him home. Left with no other option, his relatives brought him back to Lohiyanagar and continued his treatment at home, hoping for improvement.

Last night, Chhotu experienced severe and unbearable pain. His family prepared to rush him to the hospital, but he breathed his last before they could leave the house. The sudden deterioration shocked his loved ones, who had been caring for him at home following the hospital's inability to provide further treatment.

Chhotu was counted among the finest gold artisans in the area and had worked in Dibiyapur and several other locations throughout his career. His craftsmanship was highly regarded in the local community, and his death has left his family and colleagues in mourning.

Kidney failure remains a serious health challenge in India, particularly in smaller towns where access to advanced medical facilities and dialysis centers is limited. Chhotu's case highlights the difficulties faced by families when metropolitan hospitals reach the limits of their capacity to treat patients, forcing them to seek care at home. His death is a loss not only to his family but also to the artisan community that valued his exceptional skills in goldsmithing.
