Shri Nagchandreshwar Temple opens for 24 hours during Nag Panchami

The doors of the Shri Nagchandreshwar Temple in Ujjain, which open only once a year for 24 hours during the Nag Panchami festival, were unlocked at midnight on Sunday-Monday in an auspicious ceremony. This rare event drew devotees from across the region, eager for a glimpse of the deity.

The temple, located within the famous Mahakaleshwar complex, is dedicated to Lord Nagchandreshwar and remains closed throughout the year except for this special occasion. The ceremonial opening began with rituals led by Mahant Shri Vineetgiri Maharaj of the Shri Panchayati Mahanirvani Akhara. The deity was worshipped with traditional Vedic chants, and the ancient idol of Lord Nagchandreshwar, along with the Shivling, was bathed and adorned as part of the elaborate puja.

Devotees will have access to the temple until midnight on Monday, providing them a rare opportunity to offer prayers and seek blessings. The Nag Panchami festival holds great significance in Hindu culture, especially for those who worship snakes as symbols of fertility and protection.
