Shravasti hospital clarifies rooftop equipment are condemned stock awaiting disposal

Shravasti district hospital's chief medical officer Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh has clarified that beds, mattresses and stretchers seen lying on the hospital rooftop in viral photographs are condemned and unserviceable equipment awaiting disposal under prescribed procedure, not active medical supplies left exposed due to negligence.

The images showing medical equipment lying in the open on the hospital roof triggered concern and prompted immediate intervention by the health department. Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh, the chief medical officer, personally visited the district hospital and conducted a detailed inspection of the material stored on the rooftop to assess the situation firsthand.

Addressing the reports of alleged mismanagement circulating in the media, the CMO categorically denied any irregularity. He clarified that the items placed on the roof are obsolete and condemned stock which is being removed in accordance with regulations. The process for their removal is currently underway, he stated.

The chief medical officer also emphasized that the hospital is not facing any shortage of facilities for patient care. The 100-bed capacity hospital currently has 135 beds that are fully functional and available for patients, he said. The hospital infrastructure remains adequate to meet patient needs, officials maintained.

Dr. Rajpal Singh, chief medical superintendent of the combined district hospital, was also present during the inspection. Reporter Atul Pandey covered the developments from Shravasti.
