Shravasti DM Reviews Campaign Screening Women Before Pregnancy Across Five Panchayats

A review meeting on the pilot project “सुपोषण से शुरुआत” was held under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Annpurna Garg at the Collectorate auditorium in Shravasti. The meeting assessed the progress of the campaign being implemented in five identified gram panchayats of Hariharpur Rani block, Shivgarh, Javgarh, Jarkusha, Vargavargi-Amwa and one other identified gram panchayat.

Under the campaign, women are being screened even before pregnancy, at the pre-conception stage. Their health is assessed to determine possible risks, and continuous follow-up is being carried out for these women.

The review meeting was attended by secretaries and gram pradhans from the concerned villages, panchayat assistants, the Superintendent of Community Health Centre Bhangaha and other officials. During the meeting, District Magistrate Annpurna Garg directed all secretaries, gram pradhans and other officials associated with the programme to work together actively.

She said that coordinated efforts were needed to achieve the right results and make the campaign successful. The District Magistrate also directed that review meetings should be held by preparing a separate roster for each gram panchayat.

She further said that all ASHAs should be prepared to play the main role in the campaign. Through the ASHAs, pregnant women, their husbands and mothers-in-law are to be made aware of the campaign and its objectives.

The “सुपोषण से शुरुआत” campaign is being implemented jointly by the Health Department, Child Development Department, Panchayat and Livelihood Mission. UNICEF is providing technical support for the project.

The meeting was attended by Arpitapal, Rabinarayan and Madhushree from UNICEF Lucknow, along with Shravasti’s A.P.C. Anurag Singh. Gram pradhans, gram secretaries and other officials and employees were also present.
