The controversy over an RSS programme at Daly College in Indore has turned into a political exchange, with Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia responding to former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh’s objection to the event.

Scindia said, “Digvijaya Singh should also not forget that Daly College is an institution of the Scindia family. Daly College was also established by the Scindia family.”

The dispute began after a major RSS programme was proposed at Daly College. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and office-bearers from across the country are expected to attend the event.

A programme involving the gathering of around 1 lakh volunteers is scheduled for 28 October. The proposed event has drawn objections from Digvijaya Singh, who said that a political programme should not be held on an educational campus.

Singh also spoke to the chairman of the college board and to Jyotiraditya Scindia himself about the matter. He questioned why the programme could not be organised at Scindia School in Gwalior instead.

The issue has now led to a direct response from Scindia. He said that Daly College was established by his family and that raising such questions was therefore wrong.

The statements have brought the proposed RSS programme at the Indore-based college into the centre of a political debate. While Singh has focused on the nature of the event and the use of an educational campus, Scindia has highlighted the institution’s connection with the Scindia family.
