Rockstar announces free GTA 5 upgrade for older console players

Rockstar Games has announced a special, limited-time promotion for Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5 players on older consoles. Eligible players can upgrade to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S versions of GTA 5 and GTA Online at no additional cost. This offer comes ahead of the highly anticipated launch of a new GTA Online update, The Kortz Center Heist, set to debut in July.

According to Rockstar, the free upgrade is available to players who own any PlayStation 4 version of GTA 5 or the digital Xbox One version of the game. Starting June 18, eligible users can claim the upgraded editions for the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Additionally, players will be able to transfer their Story Mode progress and GTA Online characters to the newer platforms.

The upgraded versions of GTA 5 and GTA Online include several technical improvements and new features. These enhancements include access to Hao’s Special Works vehicles and upgrades, Career Progress rewards, and other advancements designed for current-generation consoles. PC players are also eligible for a free upgrade from the Legacy version of GTA 5 to the Enhanced Edition, which features advanced graphics options like ray-traced ambient occlusion and global illumination.

The free upgrade offer coincides with the upcoming Kortz Center Heist update for GTA Online. This update focuses on the Kortz Center, an iconic art gallery in Los Santos’ Pacific Bluffs. Players will be able to purchase an Art Studio addition for their Mansion properties, scout the heist location, and choose between various approaches to execute the multi-stage heist.

In the weeks leading up to the update, Rockstar has planned special events, including bonus GTA$ rewards, discounts, and opportunities to collect rare items through the Fine Art Collector program. GTA+ members will also receive a GTA$2,000,000 discount on Mansion properties, while all players can enjoy a 40% bonus GTA$ on Shark Card purchases for a limited time.

The Kortz Center Heist update will be available in July for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
