Retired police sub-inspector shot dead in Unnao, investigation underway

A retired sub-inspector was shot dead under mysterious circumstances in Unnao late on Sunday night, triggering shock and concern in the PD Nagar locality of the Sadar Kotwali area. The deceased has been identified as Ramjeet, who retired in 2021 from the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Local Intelligence Unit (LIU). He had been living with his son Abhishek at their residence in PD Nagar since his retirement.

According to police, Ramjeet had finished dinner and gone to rest in his room when a sudden gunshot was heard. Family members rushed to his room and found him critically injured. They immediately informed the police, who arrived at the scene along with forensic experts and the area’s Circle Officer, Vini Singh. Ramjeet was declared dead on the spot, and his body was sent for post-mortem examination.

During the investigation, police recovered Ramjeet’s licensed single-barrel gun from the room. The weapon has been seized and sent for forensic analysis. Authorities are probing the circumstances under which the gun was fired and whether foul play was involved. Circle Officer Vini Singh stated, “We are examining all aspects of the case. The exact cause of death will be clear after the post-mortem and forensic reports are received.”

The incident has left the local community shaken, with residents speculating about the possible reasons behind the tragedy. Police have assured that all angles will be thoroughly investigated, and further action will be taken based on the findings. For now, the focus remains on collecting evidence and uncovering the truth behind the retired officer’s death.
