Rats Allegedly Drag Gold Jewellery Out of Tumakuru Shop, CCTV Helps Recover It

A jewellery shop in Tumakuru, Karnataka, reportedly found gold and diamond-studded ornaments worth around Rs 10 lakh missing during its morning stock check. There was no visible damage to the shop's shutter or locks, and the missing items initially raised suspicion about possible staff involvement. Rings and chains missing during morning count

The incident was reported from Vishwas Jewellery on Call Tax Road in Tumakuru. According to reports by Public TV English and ETV Bharat, staff noticed that 10 diamond-studded gold rings and two or three chains were missing from a display case. The ornaments weighed more than 50 grams in total and were estimated to be worth around Rs 10 lakh, the reports said.

The shop staff reportedly checked the stock three times after informing the owner, Vishwas. The absence of broken locks or damage to the shutter made the alleged theft difficult to explain. A detail involving the ornaments' paper price tags then changed the direction of the search.

Missing price tags offered the first clue

The Indian Express report cited in the account said the paper price tags attached to the jewellery were also missing. Some trays reportedly contained only cut threads. That detail led staff to consider whether the ornaments had been pulled away along with the threads, rather than removed by a person looking only for gold and diamonds.

When the shop's night-time CCTV footage was reviewed, a rat was reportedly seen carrying a gold ring in its mouth at about 4:30 am. The reports said three or four rats may have been attracted by the scented threads used with the tags. The footage was used to follow the animals' route from the display area.

Jewellery reportedly found near a wooden display case

Staff allegedly traced the trail to a wooden display case where the rats had made a burrow. A carpenter was called to open the area, after which the missing jewellery was reportedly recovered. The account said the rats had chewed the tags and threads but the ornaments were found safe.
