Pothole on rural road delays ambulance, pregnant woman loses unborn child in Agra

A pregnant woman lost her unborn child after the ambulance carrying her got stuck in a pothole on a dilapidated road in Agra's Bah tehsil. The incident has brought renewed focus on the poor condition of rural infrastructure and its tragic human cost.

The case is from Garhbar village in Bah tehsil of Agra. On the night of September 3, a pregnant woman went into labor. Her family called an ambulance, but while traveling to the hospital, the vehicle became trapped in a large pothole on the village's broken link road.

The ambulance remained stuck at the spot for more than two hours. By the time the woman was finally taken to the hospital, her unborn baby had died.

The family has blamed the poor condition of the road and the resulting delay in treatment for the tragedy. The matter came to light after a complaint was filed during Samadhan Diwas, a public grievance redressal forum. Following the complaint, Agra's Chief Medical Officer has called for an investigation report into the incident.

The case underscores the dire state of connectivity in rural areas, where inadequate road infrastructure can turn medical emergencies into fatal delays. What was meant to be a journey to welcome new life ended in heartbreak for the family, with a single pothole becoming the difference between hope and loss.
