A factory allegedly involved in manufacturing fake DAP fertilizer has been uncovered in Morena district, where police seized more than 500 sacks of the fertilizer from a premises being operated in a dilapidated building. According to the information available, the material was being prepared by mixing gravel, soil and black ash. The mixture was then being packed in government DAP fertilizer sacks.

The police raided the factory after receiving information about the operation. The unit was functioning in two rooms of a building in a dilapidated condition. During the raid, around half a dozen labourers were found at the spot, engaged in filling fertilizer into sacks and packing them.

It is being reported that the factory operator had brought the labourers from the mandi to work at the unit. They were allegedly being paid daily wages of Rs 800-800 for filling and packing the sacks.

At the premises, fake DAP was being prepared by mixing black ash with gravel and soil. After the mixture was prepared, it was being filled into sacks carrying the markings of government DAP fertilizer and packed for possible sale.

There is a suspicion that these sacks were intended to be sold in the market as genuine fertilizer. However, it is not yet known where the fertilizer was being supplied or how many sacks may have reached the market. The details are expected to emerge only after the investigation is completed.

Following the police action, officials from the Agriculture Department reached the spot. Agriculture Department Assistant Director Anant Bihari Sadhaiya arrived after receiving information about the seizure. The department took the recovered fertilizer into custody and sent it to the police station for security.

The Agriculture Department has started further action in the matter. The seized material is being kept under protection while officials investigate the operation and the people connected with it.

Station Road police station in-charge DIA Darshan Shukla said that the police are now trying to find out who was operating the factory. The investigation is also examining where the government DAP fertilizer sacks used for packing the fake material had been brought from.

The police are also looking into the areas where the fertilizer was supposed to be supplied. Officials are trying to identify the other people who may have been involved in the business, apart from the person operating the factory.

The sale of fake fertilizer can cause financial losses to farmers and may also adversely affect their crops. The possible impact on farmers and crops will depend on where the material was supplied and used. The complete network involved in preparing and supplying the fake DAP, along with the role of the people responsible, will become clear after the investigation.
