Two Indian airports have earned a spot on the prestigious list of the world's seven most beautiful airports, as announced by the international design awards, Prix Versailles 2026. The Navi Mumbai International Airport and Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport have been recognized for their unique blend of modern architecture and traditional Indian elements.

Experts have highlighted that the selection criteria for these airports extended beyond mere aesthetics. Factors such as innovation, passenger experience, environmental sustainability, and the incorporation of local cultural identity played a significant role. Both Indian airports stood out for their ability to seamlessly integrate traditional Indian motifs into contemporary designs, garnering global recognition.

The list also includes other architectural marvels such as Terminal 3 of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in China, Terminal 3 of Frankfurt Airport in Germany, Cambodia's Techo International Airport, and two U.S.-based airports: Terminal 1 of San Diego International Airport and Pittsburgh International Airport.

Navi Mumbai International Airport, in particular, reflects Indian culture through its design, which draws inspiration from the lotus flower. Featuring lush green open spaces, ample natural lighting, and state-of-the-art facilities, the airport has emerged as a modern symbol of Indian architecture.

Meanwhile, Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport's newly constructed Terminal 2 pays homage to the cultural heritage of Northeast India. Its interiors are inspired by bamboo, a material deeply rooted in the region's traditions. The terminal also showcases local art, folklore, and craftsmanship, contributing to its global acclaim.
