Muzzaffarnagar police crack two-crore jewelry heist in 48 hours, arrest two suspects

Muzzaffarnagar police have successfully cracked a major burglary case within just 48 hours, recovering stolen jewelry worth approximately two crore rupees and arresting two suspects. The joint team from Budhana police station and the Special Operations Group arrested Shahzad and Shahnawaz, both sons of Raheesh and residents of Khalapaar in Muzzaffarnagar, following an encounter in which one suspect was injured.

The burglary took place on August 28, 2026, at the residence of a retired sub-inspector in the Budhana area. Unknown thieves broke the lock and stole jewelry, cash, and other valuables while the family was away. Considering the gravity of the incident, police formed multiple teams and launched a search operation to track down the culprits.

On the night of August 31, the Budhana police and SOG team were conducting vehicle checks when they attempted to stop two suspects on a motorcycle. According to police, the accused opened fire while trying to flee. In retaliatory action, one suspect was injured while the other was arrested at the spot. The injured accused was sent to hospital for treatment.

Police have claimed 100 percent recovery of the stolen property, which includes 745 grams of gold ornaments and 2 kilograms 240 grams of silver jewelry. Authorities also recovered an illegal .32 bore pistol with live and empty cartridges, a .315 bore country-made pistol with cartridges, a shovel used in the theft, and a motorcycle. Both suspects allegedly used to conduct house reconnaissance under the guise of vending before committing thefts.

The victim's daughter expressed satisfaction with the swift police action, thanking the SSP Muzzaffarnagar, Budhana police, and the SOG team for their dedication. Police officials have announced a reward of 25,000 rupees for the team that executed this commendable operation. A case has been registered against the arrested suspects under relevant sections, and further legal proceedings are underway.
