Muzaffarnagar police recover ₹1.04 crore in cyber fraud case

Muzaffarnagar Cyber Police have recovered ₹1.04 crore out of ₹2 crore fraudulently transferred from a victim's bank account by cyber criminals. The amount has been credited back to the victim's account.

Kushagra Agarwal, a resident of Patel Nagar under Nai Mandi police station jurisdiction, had lodged a complaint at the Cyber Crime police station on 20 July 2026. He alleged that cyber criminals misused his name and photograph to contact his accountant through WhatsApp and fraudulently transferred approximately ₹2 crore from his SBI bank account through impersonation.

Following the complaint, the Cyber Crime police station team launched immediate action under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Verma and supervision of Superintendent of Police Crime Mrs. Indu Siddharth. The police team froze ₹1.23 crore that had been transferred to more than two dozen accounts across different banks.

After sustained police action, ₹1.04 crore was credited back to victim Kushagra Agarwal's bank account on 2 September 2026. Efforts are continuing to recover the remaining amount and identify and arrest the accused involved in the cyber crime.

After receiving the refund, the victim expressed gratitude to Muzaffarnagar Police. He appreciated the efforts of Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Verma, Superintendent of Police Crime Indu Siddharth, Circle Officer Crime Radharaman, Cyber police station in-charge Karmveer Singh and the entire cyber team.

Muzaffarnagar Police have appealed to citizens not to click on any unknown links and not to share confidential information like bank account number, PIN, OTP, CVV with anyone. In case of cyber fraud, people should immediately call 1930 or contact the Cyber Help Centre.
