Man rescued after falling 70 feet down well in Uttar Pradesh

A dramatic rescue operation unfolded in Pratapgarh's Manikapur area on Saturday when a 20-year-old man who had fallen into a 70-foot-deep well was successfully pulled to safety by fire service personnel. Panne Lal Maurya, son of the late Birju Maurya, had become trapped in a 10-foot-deep cavity at the bottom of the well in Kajiayana village, sparking panic among local residents.

Upon receiving the distress call, a team from the Kunda fire station rushed to the scene and immediately launched a carefully planned rescue operation. When the crew arrived, they found Maurya unconscious and trapped in the cavity at the well's base. Given the challenging conditions, the fire service personnel devised a meticulous strategy to extract him safely from the precarious situation.

Firefighter Vipin Kumar was equipped with breathing apparatus and lowered approximately 70 feet into the well using rescue ropes and a chair knot system. Once he reached the bottom, Kumar assessed Maurya's condition before descending a further 10 feet into the cavity to reach the trapped man. He then carefully secured Maurya with rescue ropes and positioned him in a rescue basket, known locally as a khanchi or jhaba.

The fire service team, working in coordination with local police and villagers, slowly hoisted the young man to the surface. As Maurya emerged safely, the assembled crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief. Villagers praised the fire service team for their courage, quick response, and exceptional judgment during the emergency.

The successful rescue operation was conducted under the direction of Chief Fire Officer Pratapgarh Raju and led by Officer-in-Charge Saurabh Saxena. The team included Leading Fireman Lal Pratap Singh, driver Surendra Kumar Singh, and firemen Vipin Kumar, Mahendra Kumar, and Sunil Kumar. The incident once again demonstrated the dedication of fire service personnel who risk their own lives to save others in times of crisis.
