Malviya Nagar Hotel Fire: Bangladeshi Survivor Alleges ₹1.8 Lakh

A Bangladeshi citizen who survived the Malviya Nagar hotel fire in Delhi has alleged that ₹1.8 lakh was charged for transporting the bodies of victims to Bangladesh, despite earlier promises of free arrangements. The survivor, Shamya Chowdhury, stated that the embassy demanded the amount after initially assuring that the transportation would be free. Speaking to ANI, Shamya said, "We were told that the bodies would be sent to Bangladesh for free, but later ₹1.80 lakh was taken from us. I want to know why money was charged despite the promise of free transport."

Shamya recounted her experience during the fire, which broke out on the morning of June 3. She was staying in room 302 on the third floor of the hotel, along with four others. "At around 8 AM, the fire started. At that moment, I thought I wouldn’t survive. It felt like life was coming to an end," she said. Shamya also mentioned that while some of her belongings were recovered with police assistance, several items remain missing.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta paid tribute to the victims of the Malviya Nagar fire and another incident in Saket's Saidulajab area. She honored citizens, police personnel, and relief workers involved in rescue efforts. Riyazuddin Mansuri, who played a key role in saving lives, received special recognition.

The fire at the Flourish Stay Hotel resulted in 23 fatalities. Investigations revealed that the hotel, registered as a six-room bed-and-breakfast facility, was operating 25 rooms. Authorities have identified multiple violations as potential causes of the tragedy.
