The Madhya Pradesh government’s new Bombardier Challenger 3500 jet aircraft reached the State Hangar in Bhopal on Tuesday. The aircraft is now set to be included in the government’s fleet.
Approval to purchase the aircraft was given around two and a half years ago. After completing the journey from Canada, the aircraft has now reached Bhopal. It has seating capacity for 8 people, including 2 pilots.
According to sources, the aircraft has a cost of 250 to 350 crore. It is equipped with several modern facilities. The aircraft is fully soundproof, according to the information provided.
Two pilots were sent to Canada for training in connection with operating the aircraft. The aircraft is capable of covering a continuous flight of 5900 kilometres.
The arrival of the aircraft is expected to reduce the Madhya Pradesh government’s dependence on helicopters. The government purchased the aircraft from Canadian company Bombardier for the use of the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and other dignitaries.
However, the aircraft will not be used for regular flights immediately. Before regular operations begin, its registration, approvals related to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, or DGCA, technical inspection and the required formalities for the pilots will have to be completed.
These processes are estimated to take around 45 days. Only after these formalities are completed will the aircraft, which is being included in the government’s fleet, be available for use by dignitaries.
