Kanpur Villagers Allege Illegal Sale of Government Land With Official Collusion

A major allegation of illegal occupation and sale-purchase of government land has surfaced in Kanpur district, with villagers claiming that the activity is taking place with the consent and collusion of the lekhpal and the kanungo.

The matter is being reported from Vanpurwa village in Kanpur. According to the allegations, land belonging to the Gram Samaj and Jaloni (pond) land in Vanpurwa is being illegally occupied, and the process of buying and selling such land is going on at a fast pace.

Villagers have alleged that a few years ago, the administration had already carried out demolition action in the same area on Arazi number 487. Despite that earlier action, they claim attempts are once again being made to occupy the same land.

Local people have named Amol Pankaj, Vijay, Malkhan Yadav, Sharad Yadav, Fauji and Sardar ji, alleging that these people are working with government employees to illegally buy and sell land. The allegation is that, with the consent of the lekhpal and the kanungo, government records are being manipulated and the land is being sold.

The villagers have demanded that the District Magistrate order a high-level investigation into the matter. They have also sought strict action against the guilty lekhpal, kanungo and land mafia involved in the alleged illegal occupation and sale-purchase of government land in Vanpurwa.
