Kanpur Police partners with IIT Kanpur to build cybercrime fighting capacity

A crucial meeting on cyber awareness and capacity building for Kanpur Zone Police was held at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, bringing together senior police officials and the institute's leadership to discuss combating cybercrime through enhanced technical capabilities.

The meeting saw deliberations between police officers and IIT Kanpur Director Dr. Manindra Agrawal on preventing cybercrimes and strengthening technological capacity. The discussions focused on building a comprehensive framework to equip law enforcement with modern tools and knowledge to tackle the growing menace of cyber offenses in the region.

The initiative was spearheaded by Additional Director General of Police, Kanpur Zone, Anupam Kulshrestha, who led the strategic planning for cyber capacity building. Under his direction, a roadmap was developed to enhance the technical skills of police personnel and improve coordination with academic institutions for research and training in cybersecurity.

Senior officers including Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kanpur Range, Yamuna Prasad and Superintendent of Police, Auraiya, Abhishek Bharti attended the meeting. SP Bharti delivered an important presentation on behalf of the police department at IIT Kanpur, outlining current challenges and proposed solutions.

The collaboration between Kanpur Zone Police and IIT Kanpur marks a significant step toward building institutional capacity to address cyber threats. With cybercrime incidents rising across the country, such partnerships between law enforcement agencies and premier technical institutions are becoming essential to stay ahead of sophisticated criminals operating in the digital space. The meeting is expected to pave the way for regular training programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives between IIT Kanpur and the police department.
