Kanpur man recovers 41,656 rupees after cyber fraud police intervention

A Kanpur Dehat resident who lost one lakh rupees to cyber fraudsters through a fake insurance policy link has received partial relief after police intervention, with 41,656 rupees successfully recovered and credited back to his account.

Sudhir Kumar, a resident of Kasbaa Roora currently living in the Rajpur police station area of Kanpur Dehat, fell victim to a sophisticated cyber fraud on 16 August 2026 when cunning online fraudsters sent him a fraudulent link. The scammers, posing as insurance representatives, tricked him into updating his insurance policy details through the fake link and siphoned off rupees one lakh from his account. As soon as Sudhir Kumar realized he had been duped, he immediately lodged a complaint the same day at the Cyber Help Desk of Rajpur police station.

The Rajpur police cyber team swung into action without wasting any time once the matter came to their notice. The team quickly established contact with bank officials and managed to freeze rupees 94,990.24 in the fraudsters' accounts as an immediate measure to prevent further misuse of the stolen funds.

Following this effective action, on Saturday, 19 September 2026, the police succeeded in recovering rupees 41,656 from the frozen amount and had it credited back into victim Sudhir Kumar's bank account. The recovery brought visible relief to the victim, who had lost a substantial sum to the fraudsters' elaborate scheme. Upon seeing the money return to his account, Sudhir Kumar expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Rajpur police, praising the team's prompt response and diligence in pursuing his case.

The police team is continuing its efforts to recover the remaining amount that is still outstanding. The successful recovery was achieved through the commendable work of Shri Surya Pratap Singh, Station House Officer of Rajpur police station, and Constable 750 Abhishek Dhakare, whose alertness and swift coordination with banking authorities made the partial recovery possible.

In a public advisory issued following this case, Kanpur Dehat Police has urged citizens to remain vigilant against online financial fraud. The police have advised that in case of any online financial fraud where money has been fraudulently withdrawn from accounts, victims should immediately call 1930 without delay or register their complaint on the cybercrime.gov.in portal. For cases of mobile phone loss or theft, citizens should promptly lodge a complaint through the CEIR portal at ceir.gov.in or through the Sanchar Saathi app to prevent misuse of the device.
