Kanpur Dehat Administration Issues Lightning Alert Amid Continuous Rain

Kanpur Dehat district administration has gone into alert mode amid continuous rain, thunder and the possibility of lightning strikes, also described as celestial lightning, in the district. The advisory was issued in Kanpur Dehat on 26 September 2026, with officials asking people to remain cautious and follow the warnings of the Meteorological Department seriously.

Additional District Magistrate (Finance/Revenue) Dushyant Kumar Maurya appealed to the general public to stay alert in view of the ongoing weather conditions. The administration said people should treat weather alerts with seriousness and take precautions to prevent loss of life and property.

The district administration has urged citizens to immediately download the ‘Sachet’ and ‘Damini’ apps on their Android phones. According to the advisory, these apps provide accurate and timely warnings about bad weather and lightning, helping people take safety measures in time.

The administration has also issued several important safety instructions for disaster situations. People have been advised not to remain in open areas during rain and lightning. If it is raining or lightning is visible, they should immediately take shelter in a pucca house or a solid building.

The advisory specifically warns people not to stand under tall trees, dilapidated buildings, electric poles or telephone poles. The administration has asked citizens to maintain distance from such places during thunder and lightning.

People have also been told to avoid metal objects during bad weather. The advisory says that while going outside, people should not use umbrellas with metal rods. They should also stay away from agricultural equipment, wire fencing and machines.

The district administration has cautioned residents not to go near water sources such as ponds, rivers or reservoirs during such weather conditions.

For those staying indoors, the advisory says people should avoid touching electrical appliances, refrigerators, televisions and water taps during thunder and lightning.

The administration has also asked people to ensure the safety of animals. Residents have been advised to tie their cattle in safe and pucca places.

For any emergency or to report an accident caused by lightning, the district administration has activated a 24×7 control room and issued toll-free and mobile numbers.

The toll-free number is 1077. The mobile numbers are 9044070030 and 9454416429. For immediate police or ambulance assistance, people can call 112.

The administration has made it clear that if anyone is affected by lightning, they should be taken immediately to the nearest health centre. Information should also be given to the control room or to 112 without delay.
