Joura Hunger Striker Referred to Morena Hospital After Blood Pressure and Sugar Plunge

An indefinite hunger strike against alleged corruption in Joura Janpad Panchayat entered its fourth day, but the health of one of the three people fasting deteriorated suddenly around midnight. Omprakash Sikwar, the husband of Neetu Sikwar, a Janpad member from Ward 19, was examined after his condition worsened.

Naib Tehsildar Rakesh Kulshreshtha called a medical team to the protest site during the night. According to the medical examination, Omprakash Sikwar’s blood pressure and blood sugar had fallen rapidly. He was first taken to Joura Hospital for treatment. After assessing his condition, doctors referred him to District Hospital Morena.

The protest has been continuing since 13 October. A total of 13 Janpad members have been staging a sit-in and demonstration outside the Joura Janpad office against alleged corruption in the Janpad Panchayat. Three of them, Muvin Khan, Sonu Nigam and Omprakash Sikwar, are sitting on an indefinite hunger strike.

The deterioration in Omprakash Sikwar’s health on the fourth day of the fast increased concern among the protesters. The health problem was reported around midnight, following which the medical team was called to the spot for an examination.

The examination found that his blood pressure and blood sugar were falling rapidly. He was then taken to Joura Hospital. From there, he was referred to District Hospital Morena because of his condition.

Naib Tehsildar Rakesh Kulshreshtha confirmed that Omprakash Sikwar, who was sitting on an indefinite hunger strike, had fallen ill. He said that a medical team examined him after his health deteriorated and that he was subsequently referred from Joura to District Hospital Morena.

The movement against alleged corruption in the Janpad Panchayat continued on its fourth day. After the health of one of the protesters worsened, the administration faced a growing challenge concerning both the demands of the demonstrators and the health of those taking part in the indefinite hunger strike.
