Jethwara police recover ₹10,000 from cyber fraudster in swift action

Police in Jethwara have successfully recovered ₹10,000 for a cyber fraud victim through swift action, marking a significant win in the district's ongoing drive against online financial crimes.

A resident of the Jethwara police station area fell prey to a cyber fraudster who telephoned him pretending to be his friend. The caller claimed that his wife had been admitted to hospital and that he urgently needed money. Trusting the familiar voice and the story, the victim immediately transferred ₹10,000 online to the account provided. He realized he had been duped only later.

The case was handled under the cyber crime campaign being conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhukar. Jethwara police took immediate action after receiving the complaint. A team comprising Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar Verma, Sub-Inspector Hemant Yadav, Constable Santosh Yadav and Woman Constable Smita Yadav swung into action, working through the MRM Portal to trace and freeze the fraudulent transaction. The entire amount of ₹10,000 was successfully returned to the victim.

The victim praised the Jethwara police for their prompt response and effective action in recovering his money.

Police have issued an appeal to the public urging them to immediately report any cyber fraud on the dedicated helpline number 1930. They cautioned people against clicking on calls, messages or WhatsApp links from unknown persons and stressed that confidential information such as OTP, UPI PIN, CVV, ATM or debit or credit card details and bank account information should never be shared with anyone under any circumstances.
