India completes testing of indigenously made AK-203 assault rifle Sher

India has successfully completed testing of the indigenously manufactured AK-203 assault rifle, named 'Sher', marking a significant milestone in the country's defense manufacturing capabilities. The weapon has been produced at the manufacturing facility in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, with complete domestic sourcing of components and materials.

The AK-203 assault rifle demonstrates impressive technical specifications, capable of firing 700 rounds per minute with an effective range of up to 800 meters. What makes this achievement particularly noteworthy is that every component and material used in the rifle's production has been sourced from Indian industry, underscoring the government's push toward self-reliance in defense manufacturing.

The Indian Army is in the process of inducting over 600,000 AK-203 rifles to replace the existing INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) rifles currently in service. This large-scale replacement program represents one of the most substantial modernization efforts undertaken by the armed forces in recent years, aimed at equipping soldiers with more reliable and effective weapons for modern combat scenarios.
