IND vs AUS: Left-arm spinner Tanmay Baloda spun a web around Australia U19 on the opening day of the second Youth Test in Ahmedabad, bowling them out for 174. Baloda finished with 6 for 32 from 25 overs, including 11 maidens, as India U19 took control of the day at the Narendra Modi Stadium 'B' ground.

Australia struck back late, removing both Indian openers, and India U19 were 38/2 at stumps, trailing by 136 runs.

Tanmay Baloda breaks Australia's batting

Australia U19 batted first and made a poor start, with India's bowlers building pressure from the early overs. Baloda then took over the attack.

His victims were Eli Brain, Neel Patel, Zed Hollick, Jacob Pietz, Thomas Vaseo and Patrick Sullivan. The key feature of the spell was how he kept hitting Australia's middle and lower order.

His figures read 25 overs, 11 maidens, 32 runs, 6 wickets. That is 150 balls for just 32 runs, and it was the standout performance of India's bowling on the Ahmedabad surface.

Australia slumped to 65 for 6

At one stage Australia were in deep trouble at 65 for 6. Wicketkeeper-batter Charlie Henderson and Jacob Pietz then tried to rebuild the innings. The pair added 70 runs for the seventh wicket and pulled Australia out of the early crisis.

Henderson made 37 off 147 balls and Pietz added 26 off 107. Baloda broke the stand by bowling Pietz, and India's bowlers did not allow the Australian tail to hang around for long after that.

Australia all out for 174

Australia U19 were bowled out for 174 in 73 overs. Charlie Henderson was the top scorer with 37, while Neel Patel made 31. None of the other batters passed 30.

Apart from Baloda's six wickets, Ayaan Akram took two, while Priyanshu Singh and Mohit Ulva picked up one each.

IND vs AUS: India's start is shaky too

Having bowled Australia out for 174, India U19 had a chance to build a strong first-innings lead, but their top order also stumbled.

Lakshya Raichandani, who scored 240 in the first Youth Test, fell for 1 off 22 balls, caught behind off fast bowler Thomas Vaseo. Sagar Virk made 16 before he too was dismissed.

At stumps India U19 were 38/2 after 15 overs. Kushagra Ojha was not out on 13 and captain Yashbardhan Chauhan on 7. India trail Australia by 136 runs with eight wickets in hand.

Tanmay Baloda's call-up

Baloda was not part of the original squad for this Youth Test series. The BCCI's Junior Cricket Committee named the Haryana spinner as Rohit Yadav's replacement in the India U19 multi-day squad, after Rohit was withdrawn over age discrepancies.

Given his chance, Baloda has produced a spell that has made him one of the talking points of India's youth cricket.

India's dominance on this tour

The tour has been tough for Australia U19 so far. India won the first Youth Test in Rajkot by an innings and 48 runs, built on Raichandani's 240, and lead the two-match series 1-0.

The biggest challenge for India now is with the bat. Australia's two late wickets showed they are still trying to fight their way back into the match.

India eye a first-innings lead

Day two of the second Youth Test will be important for India U19. They need to get past Australia's 174 first and then push for a big lead.

The main story of day one, though, was Tanmay Baloda. His 6/32 kept Australia to a low total and gave India the early advantage in the match.
