The death of a woman during childbirth at a private hospital in the Sasni area of Hathras has led to protests by her family, who have accused the hospital’s doctors of negligence and demanded an impartial investigation and strict legal action.

On Sunday, the woman’s relatives reached the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Hathras and staged a sit-in to protest her death. They alleged that the doctors at the private hospital were negligent during her treatment. The family demanded that the actual cause of the woman’s death be established and that those found responsible face strict legal action.

The deceased woman has been identified as Baby Devi. According to her relatives, she already had three daughters. She gave birth to a boy as her fourth child, but died after the delivery. The newborn boy is safe.

The woman’s death has left the family in mourning. The relatives said that the birth of a son was expected to be a moment of happiness for the family, but those celebrations turned into mourning after Baby Devi died during the treatment.

Baby Devi’s husband, Ajit, son of Mahendra Singh, said that at around 11:30 pm on October 10, he took his wife to a private hospital in the Sasni area for delivery. The doctors admitted her to the hospital and performed an operation. After the operation, Baby Devi gave birth to a boy. However, she died during the course of treatment.

Ajit alleged that his wife lost her life because of negligence by the doctors. After the incident, the family tried to speak to the hospital’s doctors and sought information about the woman’s death. However, he alleged that the concerned people closed the hospital and left the place.

The alleged conduct after the woman’s death angered the family members. Upset over the incident, they reached the SP’s office on Sunday and began a sit-in protest.

The relatives told the officials that the matter should be investigated impartially. They demanded that the real reason behind Baby Devi’s death be determined and that strict legal action be taken against the people responsible.

The family members said they should get justice. They also demanded that no one found negligent at any level in the matter should be spared.

At present, the official version of the hospital management and the police has not come forward. The allegations made by the family and the actual cause of the woman’s death can be confirmed only after the investigation is completed.
